Crear is 99 miles, just over a two hour drive, from the city of Glasgow, and set within Scotland's richest prehistoric landscape.

Your journey to Crear is one of the world's most beautiful road trips around the bonny banks of Loch Lomond, over the famous Rest and be Thankful mountain pass and along the stunning Argyll coastline.

Please follow our directions and use the map we'll post to you. To ensure you get into the complete Crear vibe, please do not rely on modern gismos and gadgets.

We have gone to great lengths to ensure the post code for Crear will not work with your SAT NAV and mobile coverage is rubbish so you can totally switch off from everyday life!

Please note that the nearest petrol station to Crear is in Lochgilphead, on the righthand side as you approach the town from Inveraray. Please be aware of deer on the road at both dusk and dawn.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

• From Glasgow ... Take the A82 out of Glasgow to Loch Lomond and Tarbet.

• From Glasgow International Airport take the M8 towards the Erskine Bridge. Cross the bridge and pick up to A82 to Loch Lomond & Tarbet.

• In Tarbet turn left onto the A83 to Arrochar & Inveraray. In Inveraray take the A83 towards Campbeltown. Drive through Lochgilphead and continue on the A83 in the direction of Campbeltown.

• About 2 miles after Ardrishaig, turn sharp right onto the single track B8024 to Kilberry. Follow this road for 14 miles. After about 13 miles you’ll see Crear’s red roof in the distance on your left and you’ll pass a ruin on your right.

Caisealrag Cottage is the next building on your left hand side with a blue roof. Continue for Crear House which is the left hand turn after you pass Cretshengan Farm. Please note you cannot see Crear House from the bottom of the driveway.

HOW TO DRIVE ON A SINGLE TRACK ROAD

If you see a vehicle coming towards you, pull into a passing place on your left, or wait opposite a passing place on your right.

If the driver behind has approached quickly, or is following closely they may want to overtake, so pull into a passing place on your left and let them past. No-one will mind you driving slowly, but is it expected that you will let them past when you get the opportunity.

If you are going to stop in a passing place, using your indicator light can demonstrate to the other vehicle what you are intending to do.

Give way to vehicles coming uphill whenever you can. Otherwise, no-one has right of way on a single-track road. It comes down to a mix of common sense and politeness.

If you see a car stopped by a passing place waiting for you, with the passing place on your left, then you should pull into it. Usually the place will be large enough that you can do this without stopping, and just carefully drive in and out of the place. Sometimes this won’t be possible, and you must stop in the passing place and let the other vehicle drive on before you leave it.

· Most passing places are marked by special square or diamond ‘passing place’ signs. Some passing places are not marked and it is also acceptable to use driveways or any wider section of road to allow passing.

PLANES, BUSES AND TRAINS

Glasgow International Airport is located west of Glasgow city, en-route to Crear.

Edinburgh International Airport is a further 40 miles.

The nearest main line train station is Glasgow Central and Glasgow Queen Street.

PEP cars offer an airport and railway collection service.

City Link run a bus service to Lochgilphead and Ardrishaig where you can take a prebooked taxi onto Crear.
