Crear Wedding Ceremonies & Celebrants

Crear extends to nearly 200 acres surrounding the house so you can decide where & when to marry, making your final plans on the day if they are weather dependent.

A vehicle track to the beach allows access for everyone.

Humanist Weddings are legal in Scotland. South Knapdale Parish Church at Achahoish and St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Lochgilphead are very welcoming to those out with the Parish.

All the celebrants except the Catholic priests would be delighted to marry you outside in the 'Great Hightland Cathedral'.

Civil Weddings

Should you chose to have a Civil Wedding (non religious) ceremony, Shona Brechin and her team of Registrars are delighted if you wish to compose your vows and personalise your ceremony with readings and music.

Nearly 200 acres at Crear are licensed for civil weddings so you can decide on the day where your ceremony will be.

There is no requirement to contact your own local registrar where ever you live in the world.

The Registrar who is conducting your ceremony will bring your legal paperwork on the day.

South Knapdale Church, Achahoish

David Carruthers, the Church of Scotland Minister of the South Knapdale Parish, welcomes everyone to his church in Achahoish where he  would be delighted to marry you, or in the 'Great Highland Cathedral' outside. He may also wear his kilt on request!

Divorcées are free to remarry in the Church of Scotland.

Please note you must still register your marriage with our local Registrar and collect your marriage schedule during office hours prior to your wedding.

St Margarets Catholic Church, Lochgilphead

Father David at St Margaret's Catholic Church, Lochgilphead is very welcoming to those outwith his parish and to those in mixed faith unions. Your marriage ceremony is required to be held within the church.

Catholic divorcées are free to remarry in the Church of Scotland & receive a Catholic blessing.

Humanist Weddings

Scotland is one of six countries in the world where Humanist marriages are legal, including same sex couples.

Our local Humanist Celebrants, are always willing to go that extra mile. Naming ceremonies for children is also a lovely way to conclude your marriage to include all your family wee ones.

Local churches & alternative options

There are many local churches of different demoninations, so please contact us directly for further information. You are also very welcome to invite your own celebrant.

Circumstances may dictate that you are already legally married on your wedding day. All the celebrants would be delighted to give a service of blessing that would appear to be the actual marriage. We have witnessed numerous ceremonies conducted by many celebrants including Interfaith and Pagan. Your available options are too numerous to list here, however please don't hesitate to ask us for advice.

Celebrants & your legal paperwork

Regardless of who performs your ceremony, you must noitify our local Registrars giving four weeks notice. Everyone can legally marry in Scotland & the Registrars will be delighted to advise you directly regarding your paperwork & other legal requirements.

You are required to collect your marriage schedule in person during office hours if you are having a religious wedding, otherwise the Registrars will bring it on the day.
